Will SCOTUS Create a God?

In the coming days the Supreme Court of the United States is set to potentially change the very nature of the United States as we know it with a series of decisions. One of those has to do with the 14th amendment and whether or not it can be used to do what it was expressly written to do – namely, prevent an insurrectionist from running for office. The second? Well, the second one could very well create a political god.

The Orange Guy, whom we prefer to remain nameless, has asked the Supreme Court, which consists of three justices he, himself, appointed (thank you, Mitch McConnell), to declare the American President immune to criminal prosecution. There is certainly no Constitutional basis for such a proclamation, nor is there precedent. The last time a President was found to be guilty of criminal activity, he was given the choice between a resignation or impeachment and removal. He – Richard Nixon – opted to step down.

This situation makes that one look like mere child’s play.

Some time in the near future, the Supreme Court will have to respond to this question of immunity, and while the only rational response would be to deny the claim, we don’t live in rational times. Some of the practices that were observed as “norms” throughout our nation’s history, like having a President nominate Supreme Court justices when one resigns or dies, have been thrown aside for political reasons. Will the right-wing justices on our current Supreme Court establish a deity in place of a President at the head of Executive Branch of the United States government?

If so, it would certainly put current President Joe Biden in a uniquely powerful position.

I really can’t imagine a scenario where the SCOTUS, regardless of who appointed the justices, declares a President immune to criminal prosecution, but just for fun, here are a few of the things Joe Biden could do if he were granted such immunity.

1. He could call off the 2024 Presidential election and declare himself king.
2. He could order the arrest and imprisonment of his political rivals.
3. He could simply appoint a successor, be that Vice President Kamala Harris or someone else. That person would then wield the power of God in Chief.
4. Disband the Supreme Court, because, you know, who needs them when you’re God?

I mean, the possibilities are literally endless. I don’t believe that President Biden would do any of the aforementioned things, but if it were that or allow our country to become a dictatorship under a narcissistic sociopath like the former President….well….maybe?

I would like to say that all of the above scenarios are merely the dystopian musings of a paranoid drunkard. Unfortunately, so much of what’s happened in our country since 2016, starting with electing a failed reality TV host to the White House and his own attempted coup d’état when we corrected that error has been very much like something no rational person would have believed possible.

Here’s hoping this isn’t the next insane thing that could never happen … but does.
